What Does a Vestry Do?

The Vestry consists of 7 elected lay members of St. Patrick's Church. Vestry members typically serve a 3 year term.  Toegether these servants:
  • Share responsibility with the Rector in promoting the spiritual welfare of the parish.
  • Aid the Rector in the institution, conduct, and development of the program of the Church both within and without the Parish.
  • Serve as agent and legal representative in all matters concerning property: maintain the buildings and furnishings, maintain other property and provide for adequate insurance.
  • Maintain responsibility for the the financial order of the parish, raising money, prompt payment of salaries and bills, prudent care of assets, maintain records, annual report, and annual budget
  • Recruit, encourage, train, and guide candidates for Holy Orders.
  • Represent the parish in its relations with the Rector.
  • Serve as a "Council of Advice" for the Rector when requested.
  • Elect a Rector if there is a vacancy
What are the qualifications for election to the Vestry?
  • Confirmed membership at St. Patrick's Church
  • Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Tithe of income
  • Are committed to spiritual disciplines such as daily Bible reading and prayer
  • Are comfortable articulating the reasons of their faith
  • Committed attendance to worship services and activities of the parish
